The managing editor Charles writes Markham to let him know he may bring any friends he would like to the Sandison dinner. He will sent out invitations to them. Dr. Charles M. Sheldon was to come to dinner but he had an accient. He has also ad sent out the check for the Sandison poem.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901).
